Your skin health is our priority
It is transmitted through extensive skin contact. This is why crowded conditions favor the spread of the disease, especially in children who can become infected in places such as school and camps.
At the same time, in adults it can also be transmitted through contact, as well as through the use of contaminated objects, such as sheets, towels, clothes, etc. It is also important to have a clear distinction between psoriasis, which is an autoimmune condition that is not transmitted, and scabies, which is extremely contagious.
TYPES OF SCARS
Typical scabies: the most common type of infection. It appears as a rash on the hands and wrists and causes itching.
Lupus scabies: manifests as raised, itchy skin lesions. It affects the genitals, armpits, and groin.
Norwegian scabies: is the most serious type of scabies as it involves a large number of parasites. It manifests itself with scales on the surface of the skin and occurs mainly in patients with a weak immune system due to another disease or administration of immunosuppressive treatment.
Scabies from animals: in addition to humans, scabies can also affect animals, especially dogs and cats. The scabies parasite in humans is different from the parasite that affects animals. Scabies can be transmitted from animals to humans, with the most basic example being Sarcoptic mange, which is found mainly in dogs and causes intense itching in humans. Scabies from animals subsides in a short period of time, provided that the animal has been removed from the area or has been cured.
SCARS SYMPTOMS
Although scabies can appear anywhere on the skin, the mites usually enter it from specific areas. Rashes appear mainly on:
•Nipples
•Hands
•Areas between the fingers
•Areas around the nails
•Wrist
•Elbows
•Buttocks
•Waist
•Genitals
•Areas frequently covered by clothing and jewelry (e.g. watches, bracelets, etc.)
Once the parasites enter the skin, it takes time for the first symptoms to appear, usually 2-6 weeks. Of course, if another infection has preceded it, then the symptoms begin to appear much sooner, within 1-4 days.
These symptoms include:
•Intense itching, especially at night.
•Rashes that look like pimples or small bumps. In some patients, the lesions also look like eczema.
• Sores that are usually caused by scratching and can cause further infection.
•Scabbing, mainly in cases of Norwegian scabies.
SCARS TREATMENT
Once diagnosed, treatment should be started immediately to prevent further spread of the parasite. Treatment usually involves antiparasitic lotions and creams applied to the entire body.
In some cases, oral treatment can also be administered, mainly including ivermectin and permethrin.
PERSONAL CARE
Since this is such a contagious disease, it is recommended that treatment be followed by all family members, even if they have not shown symptoms.
At the same time, special attention is needed in the use of the items mentioned above (sheets, towels, etc.) in the event of living with a sick person.
Doctor Nikolaos Makris closely monitors the progression of the disease in each patient and suggests appropriate measures to limit and treat it more quickly.
