Herpes zoster
It is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus (varicella zoster virus, VZV). The first manifestation of VZV infection in the body is chickenpox and occurs mainly in infants and children. After the primary infection, the virus remains in the nervous system in a latent state and in case of relapse it appears as shingles.

Your skin health is our priority
Antiviral treatment is the mainstay of treatment for herpes zoster and aims to reduce discomfort and duration of the disease. It also has the ability to reduce the intensity of postherpetic neuralgia. Ideally, treatment should begin within 72 hours of the appearance of skin lesions. Lidocaine and capsaicin gels, opioid preparations, gabapentin and tricyclic antidepressants aim to control postherpetic neuralgia.
Shingles can be prevented through vaccination. In our country, shingles vaccination has been included in the National Vaccination Program of the Ministry of Health. According to this program, the vaccine is administered free of charge to individuals aged 60 – 75 years, regardless of whether they have had a previous episode of shingles.
